I half expected Trudi to be sleeping on the couch, but no. I also didn't get any messages from her all Saturday, which would have been more odd, except for the fact that I knew her phone charger had bit the dust.
So I spent all of Saturday apprehensive. Apprehensive! For someone I know can land on her feet from any situation. I'm around her just a few days, and already I'm back in protective mode.
Towards early evening she calls me up from her mom's phone, and wants me over at her mom's new place to attempt to revive the fizzled family dinner concept. She's fine, she's spent the day in class for mediation, and she's moving into her mom's place.
I've been in angst mode all day, so of course I haven't bothered with a shower. And of course I get embroiled in two conversations on the way out the door, too. So it takes me near an hour to get there, and Desirée's taken off...
The dinner thing is next week, now. But I got to see her mom's place off Almaden, downtown. One hell of a nice old house, with a huge cathedral ceiling living room, and Trudi's getting a corner bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. Makes me wonder why the hell I'm not section 8...
We went out and had a nice dinner, and what was, in general, a nice talk, except for this continuing gay thing. There's a whole thing about Desirée possibly being lesbian (She's sporting short hair and a (gasp) rainbow purse). There's also the fact that her dad and step-mom's son, Vince, is either bi or gay. And they're rabid about the whole thing (And unaware about their son, of course). They want to go door-to-door, and apparently lecture people until they stop sinning.
But this is all relatively irrelevant as far as I'm concerned. What is relevant is that Trudi has, definitely, bought into the whole "choice" bullshit. She's not about to proselytize, which I appreciate, but it's difficult holding a decent conversation with someone that, well, gullible.
Some very strange stuff, too. A whole bunch of stuff about meth giving you gay thoughts. That's a new one.
Once I got home, I just had to go and do some web research, because, well, I didn't particularly care before. Some rather interesting stuff on biblical interpretation, but one thing in particular stood out - so to speak.
Apparently one of the basic tenets of the "choice" school is that people try cock and get addicted to it. This is so much like the American response to communism - "Our system is superior, but we've got to fight to limit the spread - because people will like it better!"
According to Kinsey (I know, I know - conservatives don't believe a thing he's ever said), about 35% of adult American males have had a homosexual encounter. This rings true as far as I'm concerned - I've heard too many "guy" guys talking about the time they tried it with their best friend. Yet only about 8% of the population is gay or bi. So it doesn't appear to be that attractive to most of the people who try it.
Furthermore, again, the concept brings up some interesting images. Apparently, if you take a conservative Christian male, tie him down, and have a bunch of men gang-bang him, he'll start begging for more, leave his wife, and start wearing rainbow flags and leather chaps.
Which is a cheering thought.
