In the meantime...
I did get to sleep not too long after my last post, and then mysteriously woke up around 9:30am (sorta like today. Hmmm...). I grabbed the traditional "Hey, I'm up early" McD's breakfast, and then was about to settle back into sleep when I got a call from genuine_snark.
They'd decided to do surgery on his tooth that day, but only if he had a ride home.
So I actually cleaned up and got properly dressed, then went off to the wilds of Campbell to pick up a very groggy Geo, and deliver him to his apartment. Many flashbacks to my own experience with oral surgery.
Anyway, got him situated, and repeated things until the short-term memory loss issues started to clear up.
Then I headed on over to Fry's, because they were almost next door. And from there, over to Staples, because they were next door to Fry's. A little silly, since I had no money to speak of, but then, the only thing I bought was some more pens, on the principle that $6 for 24 decent pens was too good a deal to pass up.
Then lunch at Taco Bell, and a leisurely drifting over to Guitar Center. I don't have the money right now, but on the assumption that I'll somehow have some again someday, I've been eyeing the QuikLok WS540 as a potential portable support for the rack. I'd really like to not be dependent on local tables when I do a show.
The only issue is if it actually works with my rack, which would require more information about its structure than is given out online. Guitar Center supposedly sells it, but as it turned out, they didn't have any in stock - and it's a special order item only. So I'm going to have to get my info elsewhere.
Since I was in the area, I also swung by K&K to see if they had it. But they were locked up tight, leading me to believe that they've finally bit the big one, which has been kind of coming for a while.
And then home for a little bit, since it was heading to late afternoon by that point.
Here is where I should have had a nap, but, well, time precluded it. What I did do was get up to Julie's at a decent time, and get set up before 8:30pm. Which was good, because I had a few people looking intently at the books at that point. No-one was actually turning anything in, mind you...
I really prefer to have a couple of other singers lined up before I start, but it looked like a bad case of "first couple on the dance floor" syndrome. So I played a couple of videos, then sang a song - and got a slip before the first song was over.
That started one of the more relatively busy nights I've had there in a while. I mean, for one thing, I actually had singers at 8;30pm. And it kept at a comfortable level, in the end running through 8 rotations before closing at 1:45am.
That was the good news. The bad news is that we made less money than last week. I seriously need to dig up more heavy drinkers somewhere.
In fact, my income for Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday was under what I normally make on Sunday and Monday alone. Tonight, at least, I get a fixed amount.
But enough bitching. There was other awesomeness, since kshandra had a DMV meeting in the City, and dragged some other Burners out with her, so we had Jan and Anita as well. Cool people. Kirsten, of course, is an awesome singer, but Jan and Anita are pretty good in their own right. And Anita, especially, was not exactly hard on the eyes.
Then some time close to midnight, Patrick and timenchanter showed up. Timmie, apparently, was unable to resist the call of a cute young thing requesting a ride to a bar. We're so similar in so many ways.
Much fun was definitely had.
Kirsten helped me with shutdown, and then we both headed down the peninsula to April's for some unhealthy après-show food. I had the potachos, which are still attempting to fight their way free.
Then home, and collapse.
I'm going to try for more sleep, since I don't have any likely white-knightery until Saturday. I am going to try to get to OSH, though - the wheel fell off the damn dolly board again, so I need to try to repair it more completely. As in, y'know, longer, possibly thicker screws.
That is, after all, the solution to a lot of the world's problems.
