The venue is a little odd - there's one big room, mostly dining, with a bar off to one side. No separation at all. Not a lot of area to set up in, either. I'd be working by the front door, in front of the jukebox, trying not to block off the avenue to the kitchen. Likely no monitor - we'd just use their 3 big flat screens for that purpose.
I'd also likely be using their sound system, which worries me slightly - it's not really designed for anything but restaurant background music. But there's frankly no good place to put the speakers, and definitely no good place to run the cabling.
I'd be starting Saturday after next.
The cool thing was that Syndee was not at all what I expected. Given the spelling, and the rather bubbly voice, I was waiting for a slightly overtanned blonde. Instead, what drove up was - well, I obviously could be wrong, but I think she's Cambodian. And remarkably cute.
Not that there's anything wrong with overtanned blondes. I just really enjoy it when my assumptions turn out to be way off base.
The decision to hire me is based on her husband, who's getting home tonight. Given they've put it off until Friday, they're probably waiting to interview more people as well.
She insisted on a fixed rate quote, so I gave her a low one, with the understanding that I'd want to raise it in a few months once the show was established.
We'll see.
Meanwhile, I'm ripping as fast as I can...
