Given my usual glacial speed, that meant just enough time to get up, cleaned, dressed, load the equipment and timenchanter in the car, and get to the bar - 10 minutes late.
No biggie. No customers, and Paula was already there with a cleaning crew, trying to reduce the evidence of Saturday's depredations. I managed to talk to her, and apparently I need to phone Wayne tomorrow about getting the new amp we need.
Always something new to do.
Anyway, what with talking to people, I wasn't ready to go until 8:15pm. Which was OK, because the first song slip wasn't put in until 8:30pm or so, and besides, we were busy running the new heater.
If you haven't experienced it, it both looks and sounds like a jet engine. There's no way to run a show at the same time. But it does warm things up pretty fast.
Since the weather is so miserable - and we didn't have the crowd of 60 people necessary to generate enough heat - we paused the show twice during the night to run the thing for about 20 minutes. With no complaints.
And we definitely didn't have a huge crowd - I think I had around 12 singers total over the length of the night. And 11 rotations, even with the long heater breaks.
Lessee. The first singer of the night was qzar_mystik, but we also had quite a bit of celticnoor, a whole bunch of jorgitoelcubano (I never thought I'd have to tell someone that my nipples don't need massaging), some moahb and Rick, major amounts of kizmet100, a lot of dionuse with Cassie and Devon (and Devon sang! Twice! Well, even, which was the part I wasn't expecting), a pleasant amount of supersniffles, a bit of lucydogstringer, and some of this guy named Manny, who one can hope will come back. I've probably forgotten someone, but that was about the level of the evening.
It was fun, if not what one would call extremely profitable. And the heater did manage to keep it warm enough that I never wore my jacket.
And the massage conga line during one of the heater breaks was quite enjoyable. Even if it occasionally involved molestation by Cubans...
Afterwards, Timmie, Cindi, Maggie, and I went off and said hi to April, then sat around and talked for about 2 and a half hours.
Then home. I've done a few minor maintenance bits, but mostly I've just surfed, as my space heater has struggled to yet again bring my room's temperature up to 64°.
And now I'm going back to bed. It's an exciting life.
