I got some more sleep, but also ended up not just incorporating the two new discs, but also doing a number of database fixes - all of which, of course, involved a fair amount of research.
The main downside of all that came from a simultaneous text conversation with kshandra, in which I invited her to the Tower party, but then thought I'd arranged to meet her there.
So I wasn't precisely in a huge hurry to get there. I finally got out of the Duplex around 8:30pm, grabbed some antidote for the sugar I'd been eating all day (I was vibrating as I left the driveway), and some liquids at BevMo, got to the Tower, said "Hi" to everyone, and was starting to realize that I hadn't spotted a Kiri when my phone rang.
She was at home, wondering when I was going to pick her up. After all, she had been expecting me around 8:00pm.
So I drove back to her place, picking up some flowers on the way to placate gridlore, who was quite irate.
Worked, too. He calmed down immediately when I handed them to him.
Then a zag back up to the peninsula, and the party. Which was, as always, pretty awesome. There were sparkle_journal and jackal_logic, of course, but also timenchanter, Dan, Veronica, genuine_snark, onyx101, Monish, Denise, Elana, Amy&Frank, and many more. 'Twas a bit crowded, to tell the truth.
Chelsea's the only one to document my costume this year:
Though you can't read the "Joe" on the cap, or quite make out the toolbelt. Sadly, the gut wasn't artificial...
Kirsten's latest, uh, whatever-he-is came by after an hour or so, and spent quite some time geeking out with Geo. I made a few jokes about the geek concentration possibly reaching critical mass, and exploding into a spontaneous convention...
Yeah, it was definitely a fun time.
(Paragraph deleted because I'm an idiot that runs off at the mouth)
Kirsten and I left there around 2:45am, and wound our way down to the Cardinal. I tend to enjoy the Cardinal on Halloween. The highlight this year was a girl in a near perfect Holly Golightly outfit. Gorgeous.
Then I dropped her off (Kirsten, that is), and headed home, where I did nothing much productive until falling asleep.
Saturday I had meant to get up before noon. I think it was 1:00pm when I crawled out of bed - and even then, I wasn't exactly in condition to do much for a couple of hours. But around 3:00pm, I drove out into the world, with a plan.
Fairly shortly, the plan was simplified - my parents were having not only torrential rain, but also fog, and called to tell me not to come up. So I drove to a couple of places, while giving the finger to the Yes On 8 groups, and managed to get a chain for the trivialt project. Not the drilling, since I didn't make it up the hill, but at least I now know what diameter drill to use...
And then to Starport, where I spent most of the evening chez Mama Colleen, with chaoswolf, sailorv61, Kitty, Michael Siladi, Alison, and quite a few more. It also got quite crowded there, but at least I didn't have to worry about it exploding into a convention: A party at Starport is always a convention.
I suppose I shouldn't complain about having my hair braided, or getting spanked, by young women. It certainly wouldn't change anything if I did.
I flew out of Starport around 8:30pm, came home, and did the most important thing of the year: Researching and filling out my ballot. I've now officially voted, including dropping the ballot off at the Registrar of Voters. I'm not going to mail the damn thing when the drop-off box is almost within walking distance.
So I'm a full citizen until the next election.
And I just celebrated by having the salmon at Carrows.
Well, OK, I was going to do that anyway. That hunger thing keeps getting to me...
Right now, I should go home and try getting some sleep. Johnathon and Jack's wedding is tomorrow - it's going to be a loooong day. Of course, there's new discs to investigate, and I still need to order the flyers for Julie's...
