You get what you pay for, an' all. I especially like the fact that Oregano provides blocks for a whole bunch of devices for which they have no models. Like, say, the 7805 voltage regulator.
Anyway, I was late yesterday evening, and had to hustle to try to get everything set up on time. I didn't have to unpack the car, but I disconnected everything before Jose took over, and, well, reconnecting takes time.
And besides, I spent the frikkin' night frazzled for some reason.
It didn't help that Jose left his players hooked up, which meant I had to disconnect them, attach the cover, and find a place for the box. This is tricky right now, because Paula decided over the weekend to store a couple of huge televisions in the booth.
Then there was the whole "verifying that one of the right-side speakers isn't working." Not to mention the "not catching that the talkover button had been left down until a half-hour into the show," and the "still not having balanced the sound for the yellow mic."
I kept ending up singing on the yellow mic, too - with the volume on it not quite high enough. It didn't help that I tried practicing using the mic stand, now that I have a clip that doesn't suck.
All of these are minor irritations - I can compensate for the dead speaker by raising the right side amp volume, once found, the talkover button just needs to be turned off, etc. But they seemed to just pile up.
I never quite got the sound to where I wanted it.
Fortunately, I seemed to be the only one stressing about it (though the talkover thing wasn't tracked down until timenchanter stormed the booth). And I didn't screw up the song selection.
So, anyway, it was cekyr0's birthday party last night, so we had quite a nice group of people, including, of course, Alex and jeffercine, but also kshandra, moahb, trivialt, jasonmagick, kizmet100, chargerboy, and jorgitoelcubano.
Not to mention the return of Patrick and
And quite a few others. We hit 18 singers on the second rotation, and only slowly dropped off from there. The 6th and last rotation was about 13 singers long.
As seems to happen when Gabe is around, there was another shirtless few hours, which foxypinkninja, supersniffles, and even synkitty joined. The last reluctantly, but not as reluctantly as Alex...
They even managed to loosen a few buttons on Nate-o and Jorge's shirts.
The bar did quite reasonably, in fact the income for the weekend (short Sunday and all) was almost right on target. Tips were low, but then I need to get back to ordering discs.
And everyone went home happy, while I went to Denny's with Synthia.
We had a fairly nice long talk, which ended when April severely bonked herself on the head while cleaning the (I think) orange juice machine. As in, huge purple bump, dazed expression, and dizziness. Synthia insisted she get herself taken to a hospital - and April had her husband (and I believe also her manager) heading to the place as we left.
I wasn't the only one having a klutz night...
Then I came home, caught up on the web, and passed out in my chair. Today is another day I get to worry about finances - apart from the usual looming doom, and the check from SJSU that still hasn't arrived, I'm in the depressed point that follows a buying spree. So it's not likely I'll be on eBay for a while...
