Bruce [userpic]
Pleasant Suicide

I was late to the bar last night, for the usual reason that I took too long cleaning up after my afternoon nap.

Which nap would have been more restful if I hadn't gorged myself at the funeral reception. I really don't know why I do that stuff.

So I didn't start the show until 8:20pm or so, making supersixy and the couple that came in (Hilary and Rick) wait. Given how tight the rotation was, I think they forgave me.

Around 9:30pm or so, Hilary and Rick went home, making for a very tight rotation.

Fortunately, people started showing up around 10:00pm, including timenchanter (to bartend), the lovely and talented candiddani, snafflekid, spawrhawk and Debbie, Lisa's friend Siobhan, John, synkitty, and of course a couple of others that will occur to me later.

As well as those who came later, like supersniffles and lucydogstringer.

So the 10th rotation expanded us from 2 to around 12 singers. Several of which actually did suicide. Granted, Eric did allow me to pick a couple of songs for him, but mostly he did his own, as did Hilary and Rick. After a quick discussion with Lisa, we decided I didn't know her well enough to pick out songs for her.

On the whole, this meant that I had a pretty easy night of it.

And, in fact, a great one. Debbie sang, and sang quite a bit, which was wonderful. I wish I had a video of her and Mikey tag-teaming Out Tonight.

It was a great group of people, and a wonderful time. Not a hugely profitable one, mind you, but a wonderful one. The bar take for the weekend was over 20% down over average - most of it that odd discrepancy on Sunday.

I closed at about 1:50am, at the end of the 16th round, packed up, grabbed some Denny's, went home, unpacked, and slept.

I woke up today for a bit around noonish, then when nothing else seemed to be going on, went back to sleep. So now I'm rested, and trying to motivate myself to actually get up, leave the house, and do something with the day. Like, y'know, eat something other than brownie bites.

Time will tell.

Yeah, I made it into a Bruce update!

It's not that rare, dear.

Though obviously a little less common recently, since during last quarter I didn't, y'know, see you all that often.

it was the Amazing Kor-Sixy show!

Or it felt like it, at least. Then I had another two drinks and started getting stupid on the mic :P

Fun times to be had. It's always nice when you can get a straight couple in a bar, who... upon finding out it's a gay bar, don't think any further of it.

When the girl asks shyly about showtunes, then once you told her they're basically 50% of any given night reportoire, lights up like an Xmas tree.

When the guy finds out from the girl, and shrugs it off as if it's no big deal. No machismo or anything. Just gets up, has fun singing, is friendly (as was she) and genuinely had a good time.

Maybe he would have been more nervous if more screaming queens were in there (as they'd be crawling all over the guy because he was H-O-T).:P

Another fun night of off the chain karaoke.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I had entirely too much fun and it was a pure pleasure to have timenchanter sing "My Give a Damn's Busted" with me. That boy is seriously talented!

And I gotta say, it makes me feel extremely hot when I get on by a boy at a gay bar. Damn, I'm good!

You are, as well, dear. You can pick my suicide next time. I wish I didn't have to call Sweden Monday night, as I've discovered there is emergency PGE work on my building Tuesday and we're not allowed in it. Would be great fun to sing!

Well, thank you dear. Both for how much fun you made the evening for all of us, and for myself. For some reason I enjoy the company of attractive, intelligent, talented women - go figure.

Trust me - if I'd had the time, I'd have been hitting on you, too.

And yes, Timmie is one of out best singers. And bartenders. And my best friend. And roommate...

It does suck about the call - but from time to time, reality has a nasty habit of intruding on our fun. Lately I kind of ignore it, but I realize that's not everybody's coping method.

So I'll just hope to see you the following Monday. And yeah, I think I have a bit of a handle on your song preferences now. :-)
