It was quite interesting. We arrived at the location, and I got to stand out of the way while all the gay boys ran around doing party preparations. It's not that I didn't want to help - it's just that I didn't have the slightest idea what to do, and they all appeared to.
And people say there's no genetic advantage to homosexuality. Without them, who would run all the parties?
It became even more amusing when tazja714 and nosfour82 showed up - and all three of us heteros did our best to just stay out of the way.
Anyway, a great little party, and I got to see tigercutig and snafflekid, which is always a plus.
Afterwards, both Timmie and I (separately) headed off to the bar, him to supposedly bartend (it wasn't really busy enough), and me to hang out and check out the sound.
It was another night of Blur, though without the huge crowds this time. Quite good music, though.
We both left at about the same time - he went home to sleep for the week, and I ended up at Carrow's for some real food. I was stuffed to the gills from crap at the party, but needed something to balance it.
At least that's what I told myself.
Saturday I was supposed to be at my parents' by 1:30pm, or 2:00pm at the latest. What with my usual delays, and Timmie's wanting to come along, we made it around 2:40pm.
So my mom and I pretty much jumped in the truck, and I did my best to rush down to the Santa Cruz dump, which closes at 3:30pm. So of course, we got stuck behind a tour bus, and about the time I said "we've got 12 minutes, it should be OK," we ran into the section of 9 above Ben Lomond that's been narrowed down to one lane...
But whatever, we made it in just before they closed the gates, and we've never gotten so much help emptying a truck before.
Then back up to the Dome, where Timmie was busy filling cracks in the deck railing. I decided to take the hard job of sitting on the couch and talking to my parents, instead.
'Round about 6:00pm we headed back down to the house so Timmie could change, then off to ComedySportz for misswong77's birthday. A very fun show, and it was definitely good to see Lucinda again after all these months.
I'd been convinced to forgo the 9:00pm show, and go out to dinner with Timmie, cekyr0, and jeffercine. But we hung around long enough to see the Empress. I think I managed to get about 4 hugs in before we needed to go. A few hundred short of what was needed, but still far better than what I can usually get on this coast.
She gave me a pack of Post-Its with a picture of a cat, and the phrase "I'm just here to maintain the Chaos." It feels good when those you love know you so well...
I was also successful in getting my ticket transferred to her, which meant my 9:00pm purchase turned out to be an excellent idea.
The dinner group turned out to be the four I knew about, plus princesskiti22 (go ahead, make my Squee!), and Devon. We initially tried Original Joe's, but the wait was an hour and a half, so we headed to Gordon Biersch, where the wait for a table was much shorter, and the total wait for food was likely much longer. We sat at our table, and considered jumping the platters of food passing by.
And in the end, what we got wasn't all that exciting. Well, OK, my entreée proper (cedar-plank salmon with pecans) was pretty good. But it came with what was essentially a mass of flavorless rice. And not even enough sauce to flavor said rice.
I don't think any of us will be back there for a while.
But of course, we were all together, and had a huge amount of fun talking back and forth. Except Devon, who communed in a corner with his Treo. Hmmm. I wonder if he has a Windows Mobile version. That would be amusingly ironic.
After that, Keri and Devon took off, largely so Keri could sleep - and continue to shake off the near-collision she'd had on the way down.
The four of us remaining headed down to the Hamptons, where we drank and watched "True Lies." Philistine that I am, I hadn't seen it before. Cute, very very silly movie.
Though I still say Jamie Lee Curtis has the face of a young boy.
Meanwhile, I managed to get quite tipsy on a single drink - an Absinthe-Minded Martini. A drink with a much better name than flavor. Timmie and I didn't leave until something like 4:30am because I needed to sober up.
Today has been pretty low-key. I've entered another disc in the system, and printed out new update sheets. I got a disc of songs from the movie version of "Rent," mostly because it's the only source I've found for a version of Today 4 U and La Vie Bohème.
And that's about it, apart from sitting around watching the occasional amusing video with Timmie and Ken. I need to start in on that whole "getting up" thing...
