Well, honestly, most of what I was doing was sweltering. Mind-numbingly hot, it was.
I got myself fed, and in complete contrast got to the bar at the stroke of 7:00pm. I wanted to make sure I had enough time to rip the Sharcs out of the old rack - which I did.
I also discovered a little detail about nVidia video boards. Never, ever start them up with a TV attached and the monitor detached. They'll go into a single monitor mode using the TV - at a completely unreadable resolution. And in this case, when I did get the monitor attached, it kept trying to use it at a resolution that my monitor doesn't support.
I went through several reboots, wondering how I was going to fix this, when it finally just... worked. No idea what exactly I did, either. Ah well.
Since I was there early, the crowd was a little more standard in its behavior (as in, "not there"), so I got to play a whole bunch of video clips. sugarbare was opening, so I got to introduce her to quite a bit of silliness.
I also managed to get a little discussion in with Lily about the volume, which will hopefully get back to Paula. Nothing forceful - just pointing out that yes, I knew there was a problem, yes, I was working on it, and no, I wasn't just keeping things at a high volume for the hell of it.
The night ended up reasonably busy for a Monday. Certainly not crowded, but the rotation stayed between 8 and 12 people pretty much all night, and I got about 7 rounds in before closing at 2:00am.
Allison dragged out ajayav and Ogre, which was nice. Since she moved to England I don't see a lot of her. synkitty came out for the second night in a row. lucydogstringer, dwo, and blankreloaded all showed up, um, separately.
celticnoor came out for the first time in ages. Sarah showed up on her own, and bought several rounds.
It was all pretty mellow, except for Mel. I've posted about the last time Mel showed up. He's large, loud, annoying, and to top it all off, too nice to tell to fuck off. Besides, he was, I'm sure, a large contributor to the bottom line last night.
Poor Summer came in to unwind after her shift, and had to deal with him trying to hit on her. He's obviously not that good at detecting lesbians - actually, I'm not sure he yet realizes it's a gay bar.
Eddie kind of volunteered to sing rock songs for him, and so got to do a lot of Metallica, CCR, and Guns'n'Roses as the night progressed.
Anyway, the only other entertaining aspect to the night was driving both Casey and Synthia home. Starting with prepping the car passenger seat for the new rack, picking the damn thing up, making it through the bar to the car - only to find that Casey was asleep in the seat.
Then Synthia, who has some issues with contact from drunk men, had to deal with a semi-conscious Casey nodding off on her shoulder.
They survived. Then home, unloading, and unconsciousness, which I've been doing off and on since then. It has not been a hugely productive day. I've ordered a replacement car radio for the one that the rack has destroyed (for some reason, stock '97 Escort radios are pretty cheap), and will have to figure out how to keep it from destroying the next one - I'm thinking a layer of foam rubber.
timenchanter, h2ocrazyguy, and I had dinner at the Gecko Grill around the corner. Not too shabby at all.
And that's about it. Timmie and I are supposed to head to the HoD at some point and be productive, but we'll see when and if that happens. Well, it will, to some extent - at the very least the garbage needs to be put out.
