Kibbles and Bits

Some stuff today...

There was the previously mentioned nibble from Craigslist. I responded in about 12 minutes - and she's never gotten back to me. Numerous possibilities, there.

The only one I have trouble dealing with is that my friend Melanie decided this would be the morning to send me 13MB of video files. To an account with a 16MB quota.

An account that isn't exactly empty...

I have her pointed at a different address now, so hopefully that won't happen again. It's just frustrating to think that there's a possibility (low, but real) of having lost a client because of someone's addiction to sending funny videos by email.

C'est la vie and all that.

I finally got around to taking the car in for some pre-smog check sprucing up. And, well, an oil change that's 2,500 miles overdue. Four hundred dollars later, the "check engine" light no longer comes on.

For some reason he wants me to drive it a bit, and also let it sit for a while, before doing the smog check proper. Either it's a burn-in issue, or a desire to propitiate the spirits.

I'll be bringing it back in on Friday.

I also threw together yet another Craigslist ad, bringing the total to 6. One more, and that task will be officially ticked off the list. Leaving only further attention to the AdWords campaign, a MySpace site, and a FaceBook account...

Along about 7:30pm, trivialt called to say he was out of class early, and would I, and potentially timenchanter, like to join him at the Cheesecake Factory?

I just can't say no to something like that. So Timmie and I headed out, and enjoyed ourselves much with the Stan. I came home afterwards, but Timmie went off to join Stan in a night of gaming.

I can't say I've done a huge amount since then. I've looked at the song interface code again, in an attempt to refamiliarize myself with it. I've done at least some of that.

Basically, I need a better search interface - one that includes song numbers - before I can afford to pull the now missing MM98-05 tracks from the database. And I don't want to print new books until I remove those.

And the books are getting pretty damn ratty.

But there's a hole in the bucket...

What The Hell Am I Doing Awake?

I even feel kinda... rested...

Very odd.

The one nibble I've had did get back to me, and is still considering me. But I may have to acquire a fair amount of Filipino music quickly.

This isn't a huge problem - the stuff's relatively cheap. The downside is that I'm used to the CDG format, and that's almost unheard-of over there. It's all DVD and VCD. So I may have to work out a method of scanning in VCDs in bulk.

Actually, that's easy. It's normalizing the sound that may turn out to be a bit of a nightmare...

Alvays mit de vork.

Ah well. Guess I should get up, maybe find a nice place with air conditioning.

Or go back to bed. I did issue the magic, sleep-inducing phrase "I feel rested"...

And... Done

The 7th Craigslist ad has finally been written and posted - now I just need to get in the habit of doing a daily repost. I'm not sure any of them are any good, mind you, but they're all different, cover different aspects of why I'm such an Excellent Fellow™, and are at least something.

It's after the deadline, so I don't know if I'll ever be allowed back in NYC, but at least I can check off one of my tasks - finally!

Next: Improving the AdWords campaign, simultaneous with working on the database interface. The stuff held up by the latter is just getting to be too important.

Besides, it's becoming rather obvious that advertising is going to become a much larger part of my life than I really want to think about. Bleh.

All I wanted was a big red button that said "You are now advertising effectively." Was that really so much to ask?
