Dia De Los Muertos

Dead Like Me

After my last post, well, we did OK for a while, then everybody went home. For a couple of rotations, is was just the three of us employees and candiddani. Then Lisa faded.

So we stopped for the night, after 7 rounds. The three of us then watched the first episode of "Buffy."

timenchanter and I had some supper at Carrow's, then home and something like the sleep thing.

Well, y'know, prefaced by several hours of mindless surfing. But that goes without saying.

My first task Monday was to get something done about Cindi's CPU. After a remarkable bit of roundabout, I have an RMA number an'all, just nothing shipped. That's on my list for tomorrow.

Looks like they only do exchanges, so I'm looking forward to attempting to put the same set of pieces together again. Joy!

I also managed to get some clothes for the trip, as well as some RAM for my dad's laptop. I'm supposed to put that in tomorrow, which is only likely to happen if I forgo sleep. Which might be a good idea - I need to be on a schedule that more approximates "normal" for the trip.

I got to the bar a little late, but nothing remarkable.

What is remarkable is that there have been no songs sung tonight. Zero. Zip. Nada.

It just never seemed worth the trouble, since the only singers signed up were myself and Timmie.

We've had a total of maybe 7 customers all night. Some cool people, definitely - Steve's friend(?) Paul, Justin G. and his roommate Erik, the ever-lovely hektikat, and a very nice lady named Teresa.

But the main thing I've done all night is watched "The Devil Wears Prada" with Timmie. I knew there was a reason I put the player output on the board.

Positively unloved, I'm feeling.

It's nights like this that make one question one's career choices...

Ready As I'll Ever Be

There was some sleep today - between about 9:30am and 3:30pm, as a matter of fact. I should feel at least sorta rested.

Of course, every other minute has been spent buying something for the trip, or trying to buy something for the trip, or finishing off a task.

supersniffles's CPU is crawling its way back to Tiger Direct. The RAM that the Fry's salesman swore would work fine has been inserted into my dad's laptop, not recognized, then removed again. I'll have to return it when I get back. In the meantime, Kingston has the exact one I want.

I solved a whole question about which jacket to take, given the weather, by packing one and wearing the other. So I've been walking around the airport with my mondo quilted leather jacket of DOOM, which is sitting beside me right now.

I've gone through all my bags, removing old useless stuff, and rearranging what was there. I can't believe what I was able to shoehorn into that suitcase...

I'll be making the whole seven days minus two belt pouches, which I'm sure will cause some minor levels of anxiety. But it's good practice for almost looking like a normal human being.

Speaking of which, I had to pack a suit for Thursday, when Debbie, electrichobbit, and I will be going to the opera. It's... formal... Heh heh heh...

Of course it'll also be wrinkled. Sigh.

timenchanter took me out to Rock Bottom for dinner, which was pleasant - but whoever I was talking to recently that was scared of it, who I told it was "just like BJ's," was somewhat right. It is different than BJ's. The food isn't as good.

He also dropped me off at the airport, which was nice. It takes about 40 minutes to get here otherwise.

In other side notes: Departing SJC at 10:25pm on a Tuesday means there is no TSA line. It was almost creepy. They even smiled at me...

Note also that I finally got the Treo modem interface to work with this laptop. Something technical has worked! Woo!

And We're Off!

More or less on time, too - and I have a row to myself!

Easily amused am I, sometimes.

Hopefully now I'll get some sleep...
