February 2nd, 2008

Thursday's show was nice, if kinda slow. Not incredibly - I only did 7 rotations, and it sounds like the bar did OK - but slower than Thursdays have been.

I'm blaming the disease. Plus the number of people that sorta burned out on Sunday and Monday.

The thing that got my adrenalin pumping was walking in to Paula saying "The heater by the booth should be working in half an hour. Do you think the speaker on top would be a problem?"

No duh. So I spent 45 minutes moving it, including detangling the speaker cord, which for some unknown reason had not only been woven into the conduits on the back, but oddly zip-tied in a couple of places.

Almost as if it had been put up by a tweaker...

Needless to say, I was a little late getting started, and the heater never got fixed.

Lots of fun, though, especially since I seem to have most of my range back. I also did the best job I've done at A Lapdance Is Always Better..., though that has nothing to do with range.

It certainly helped that quite a number of people were singing along. I love my friends.

Speaking of which, trivialt was there. No candiddani, since she was off at some inferior show, but several hours of koc_hex. And of course, princesskiti22 hostessing, being as lovely and engaging as ever.

And a cast of tens! The big surprise of the night was a visit by Tim H, down from Portland.

Most everyone decided to go home around midnight, which meant supersniffles was able to get a couple of songs in.

After shutting down, and getting as many goodbye hugs out of Keri as I could (not that I'm greedy), timenchanter and I had some food at Denny's, then headed over to Cindi's place to install her new CPU cooler.

Which didn't fit, dammit. After I measured for space, too. Just wrongly, it appears.

But we got to spend time with Cindi, and a cheerfully drunk segajenison. Hopefully she made it to her new job today, and things went well.

Then home, and eventual unconsciousness. I woke up around 4:30pm, and got ready as fast as I could...

I managed to finally find my suits, and we found a dry-cleaner that'll have both of ours done tomorrow.

We also attempted to get in contact with our landlord to pay rent, with no success. Hopefully in the morning.

There was also some frame shopping for dwo's memorial, with mixed luck. We didn't find a Guinness frame, and will be dropping by Betsy's place tomorrow - she apparently has a bunch of frames lying around.

Otherwise, there were a couple of decent ones at Aaron Brothers.

Dinner at P.F. Chang's, then it turned out Betsy wasn't feeling well, so I dropped off Timmie at the bar, where he's been working all night.

Then some more failed attempts to pay rent, followed by a rush back to the bar given news that Melanie was here. She of course left when I was about 2 minutes out.

And here I've been since. It's been a good night for Blur and the bar. Both Timmie and Ron have been busy for most of the night, and there's been a decent amount of dancing.

I've talked a fair amount with Jason and, oddly, Patrick.

And closing time is coming up shortly...

Shutdown at the bar went fairly smoothly - though it turns out it was the last night of Blur. Too bad, really, but I can't say I'm surprised.

It also looks like the next GameBoy is scheduled for the same day as the Black&Blue Ball. Hopefully Paula will actually clear that one up.

Had a nice little convo with Ron, which rarely happens - but then, I rarely see him. Then timenchanter and I headed out in search of food. We settled on Bay 101, with much the same experience as before: Good food, insanely slow service. I mean, wow.

Then home, where I settled into not really sleeping until 8:00am. I can generally catch the landlord then. So, a bit of napping in my chair, but that warm, enticing bed was completely off-limits.

The hardships I endure. In any case, I got the rent paid, then went to bed.

I woke up at 2:30pm, for no discernable reason. All good, though. It meant I could make it to the cleaners on time, and also call my parents to cancel. Just not up to it, today.

Of course they were in a panic, because they'd just had their new fancy generator installed, with the immediate result that there was now no power at all getting to the house. And, of course, the installer that had just driven away wasn't answering his phone.

So I told them I'd call back after picking up my clothes. Which I did, with the gratifying response that a guy had arrived, and was puttering around with the circuitry. I just did not feel like playing amateur electrician with their combined grid/solar/generator/battery bank setup.

Instead, I headed out in the Panera direction for food, stopping for a bit at both Office Depot and Cost Plus. Not that I had a great need to, but I'm kinda antsy. One of those wonderful states where I must do something, but I have no idea what - and anything that involves concentration is right out. I did at least find some replacement slip envelope tubs at Office Depot, but they're not quite what I'm looking for. At this point, I'd really prefer something of the file cabinet variety. The number of slips has ballooned to the point that I feel I need another dimension to the storage capacity, so to speak.

Most of this restlessness has its roots, I think, in that economic sword of Damocles that's been hanging over my head for something like 6 years now. I can't maintain this lifestyle. I need at least triple the money that I'm presently making. But I can't get myself motivated to do much about it. I have my little blue sky ideas, but I don't follow through - and besides, my party schedule is dense enough that I don't have time for more job than I already have.

It's just so unfair, ya know?
