Eh, It's Something

I took forever to get going yesterday - mostly because of lack of sleep, I assume. I was supposed to be at my parents' by 3:00 - I managed to get there around 6:00.

Fortunately, they were both pretty zonked, too. They've been sleeping a lot, mostly, as far as I can tell, because they're both wounded. Still, my dad seems much better than he did before the operation, and while my mom has a black eye and a nasty scrape on her forehead, that doesn't seem to be slowing her down much.

Mom threw together her idea of a "light" dinner (no hors-d'oeuvres, and no salad course! The horror!): Salmon tail, green peas, and sourdough bread, followed by fresh strawberries. We survived.

We sat. We talked. The usual. Around 10:00 I headed back down to civilization.

Shortly after I got back home, timenchanter got home as well, and was hungry, so I had some dessert at Carrows with him.

Then back home.

Interspersed with all this was the new, improved backup process, involving two different backup programs and a new hard disk. I bought a refurbished HD, and I've put image backups of all three of my main devices (Desktop, laptop, and Treo SD) on that drive. This way, the main backup is comparatively fast, and the latest backup is always available from the drive.

For archive purposes, I'm backing up the backup drive to DVD. I'll probably never use those archives, but it gives me time checkpoints I can go back to, if necessary. Also, since the backup to DVD is from an inactive drive, there's no particular worry or hurry about using the desktop system while the DVD stage of the backup is running.

Kinda Rube Goldberg, but it should work. And at least I'm backing the stuff up - it's been over a year since I backed up the laptop, and apart from my last, kinda successful situation, I've never backed up the desktop.

So at least I'm doing some level of housecleaning.

That's Better

In continuation of the last entry - about an hour and a half later:

synkitty: Yes i need a ride
Me: Ah. Could you *ask* for one, dear?
synkitty: Yes could you please give me a ride home?
Me: OK.
synkitty: I am sorry about not asking please forgive my rudeness
Me: It has been bothering me a little bit, hence the snippiness. But nothing to be incredibly upset about. I'll see ya later.
synkitty: Well, i will work on my politeness for i don't like being rude

Now, I probably shouldn't have posted all this - it was sent privately, and I haven't asked her for permission, which is, well, rude.

But I think it's good to be able to point out that one can easily resolve minor frictions without being nasty.

Also a reminder that the people that bug you may be doing so in complete innocence.

And that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I'll also be apologizing to her tonight.
