Tides of Humanity

I as usual took several hours getting myself together yesterday. I showered, put on my brand new "What part of phnglui mglw'nafl Cthulhu r'lyeh w'gah nagl fhtagn don't you understand?" t-shirt, had a leisurely dinner at beautiful Taco Bell, and headed to the bar.

And into one of the wildest nights I've had there in quite a while. This was a return to the old 3-rotation night - though I managed to fit in parts of a 4th between 1:30 and 1:55. Which didn't mean there wasn't a customer upset that he wasn't getting to sing at 1:55.

I mean, hell, even trivialt was there.

It took a little readaptation. Every time I thought I had everything filed and ready to go, 5 people would put up song slips, and 3 people would make song changes. Still, as far as I know, I managed everyone's requests correctly.

I did have some sound problems for the first half hour. They would have been fixed sooner, except that I was blaming them on the red mic, and trying to figure out what to do with it. It was when someone grabbed the yellow, and it sounded the same, that I started really looking around for other answers. It turns out someone had left the "talkover" button pressed on the DJ board, with the muting set to minimum. Apparently even at minimum it really muddies the sound. Fixing that got everything back on track.

In fact, the red mic seemed to be perfectly fine last night. I'm still looking into the cost of a new mic - or at least mic insert.

I'm not even going to try to list who was there, except a few notables: ajayav's sister Allison was back on a visit from London. I didn't have any time to talk to her, but it was great to see - and listen to - her anyway. She stuck it out for two songs, even though she hadn't slept for 36 hours at the start of the show.

cekyr0 and jeffercine came out of seclusion, finally. I hadn't seen either of them since the 21st.

Otherwise, a whole buncha people crawled out of the woodwork. Quite a few new faces there, too.

Afterwards, I headed to Carrows, had some supper and decompressed. I crawled into bed, but couldn't resist playing my new "Call of Cthulhu" silent movie DVD. It's only available for order from Cthulhu Lives, but it's well worth it - at least if you like Lovecraftian campy horror. I fell asleep in the midst of some of the extra features.

I've been sort of up for a couple of hours now, and need to figure out what I'm doing. I haven't done any work, really, all week. But I also need to estimate my taxes, and send in a payment by Sunday.

And all I can concentrate on is project stuff. I've got some other TXCO thoughts going right now, for instance...
