SUV Assholes

This afternoon, I was leaving the McDonald's parking lot at Capitol&85 (I spend way too much time there), when I was cut off by some guy in a Yukon XL.

This wasn't itself so bad. It was sort of an iffy situation. And it just meant that I was behind the guy waiting at the light, instead of being the first at the light. But it made me consider the sort of person who would drive that sort of monstrosity. It's built high, as if for off-road, but the finish precludes that - so the height's just a rollover hazard. It's large enough to haul furniture or building materials, but the roof's too low - and the height makes it hard to load.

Basically, it's an extremely ugly piece of conspicuous consumption that says "I don't give a fuck, I can afford to waste tons of gas".

As I was thinking this, the driver opened his window and tossed an empty drink cup out.

I should mention that for some reason, casual, unnecessary littering makes my blood boil. And I was already a little pissed at this guy.

I was at a point that I had to do something. It looked like the light wouldn't change for a while, so I stopped the car, got out, picked up the cup as ostentatiously as possible, and yelled "asshole" at his window as I walked back to my car.

I'm sure he just thought I was some nut, and it wasn't as satisfying as, say, keying his monstrosity, but one does what one can.

A Truly Great Show

Last night's show was one of those that remind me why I like to do karaoke.

It's hard to describe, but when the energy's good, and people are having fun, I get a kind of high from the result.  I'm sure most DJs know what I mean.

It helped that, unlike Thursday, I wasn't wrestling with the sound all night (Thursday I had a problem that mostly turned out to be the result of the sub's amp being accidentally turned all the way up, adding a ton of distortion - something I only solved when dwo asked about the sub).

It also helped that it was a great group of people.  valeriesparks and mr_seed celebrated part of Valerie's birthday at the show, with one hell of a yummy cake (I find most birthday cake pretty awful).  Shawn and cmjfoxfyre hung out for a few hours, with Carla doing "Down By The Water" by P.J. Harvey, a song I haven't heard in far too long.  gidget121972 came with her new man, who sang a song (Not too surprising, he is in a band, after all).

Armelle was there for most of the night.  xtina_satanica and Honey stayed for a few hours - longer than usual.  Probably in part because there were hanging with Angela, who hadn't been at the show in ages.  Natalie brought her little band of warriors.

timenchanter was there for a few hours, then left at a sane time for work.  The same could be said for nikari and dancin_whitey.  In fact, one of the cooler things was that, while I had a huge rotation in the middle of the night (Rare for a Sunday), I finished the night by clearing every single slip off my board, while finishing at precisely 1:30.

So supersniffles got to do three songs, and Steve only did two because that's how many he put in.  I ended up asking Natalie for another song because she ran out, and I only had songs left from her friend Kat and Cindi.

Just a great time.

Not Used to This

Mena's usual ride deserted her today.  Not too surprising - Dale wants to get into her pants, and keeps doing favors in the hopes.  Every now and then he gets fed up.

I got up and dragged her off to school at 7:30. Um.  More correctly:  Took her off to school while dragging.   I needed to get some more stuff from my parents' car, and drop off a release so it could be towed, so I then headed to the tow yard in Los Gatos, only to find I was there at 8:00, and they didn't open until 9:00.

I fortunately brought a book, and headed off to a McDonald's to have some breakfast - actually sitting down, for a change.

So their car's been totally emptied, now, and can be legally dragged off.  And the pile of junk is on their coffee table.  Now I just need to talk to the adjuster...
