I pulled myself together, rushed out the door, and made it to misswong77's church at the stroke of 6:00.
I was guided to my table, and almost took the tablecloth off sitting down. I tried not moving too much after that.
The show was, well, largely what I expected. Watching timenchanter and cekyr0 belt out their happy submission to God had its amusing points.
And the kid rap portion of the show wasn't as bad as I'd been left to believe. For one thing, they didn't really rap. More like simulated sampling.
I always have odd feelings around Christmas shows. I happily agree with pretty much everything, except the God and Jesus parts. Those, of course, being the central points to those writing and putting on the show.
I'd still like to know who picked the pictures of Jesus as a child. Initially, they showed a painting of an odd hybrid between a baby and a smiling blond boy. An extremely disturbing image. Later, they used a still from a movie about the nativity. A headshot of a baby (Quite Caucasian, of course), taken from below the chin, mouth pursed, pupils dilated, and eyes narrowed.
In other words, the baby Jesus glared down its nose at the audience in grim, superior disapproval. Sort of a "I'm going to sacrifice myself for this?" kind of look. Chilling, actually.
All quibbles aside, a good show. For one thing, I was sharing a table with trivialt. And k_magic, and jeffercine, and entropyca, and deekers. And some older guy (I mean, older than me), who must have felt a little out of place.
From there I rushed off to the bar. Even with the prep, I wasn't ready to start until 8:20, partly from dealing with song requests.
I haven't had a Sunday night that busy in ages. Hell, I haven't had a Thursday night that busy in ages. We had three rounds, and the only reason I managed three is because a lot of people took off between midnight and 12:30.
A large portion of the Christmas show came, including Lucinda, who not only showed up, but stayed almost all night. On top of that, it was the triple birthday night for hollyk, rickshaw, and kozmic_tar.
I ended up with 37 individual singers, so there's no way I can list even most of them. It was the first night there (And hopefully not the last) for spondee and her boy.
Or should I say boys? spawrhawk was there most of the night as well.
dwo showed up, and sang a couple. supersniffles made it at her usual time, so I was only able to fit her in for one.
And I can't forget to mention that Stan sang three songs.
synkitty did her usual request for a ride home, and then proceeded to have a near panic attack when she got there. Apparently she doesn't deal well with crowds. She still sang.
I had a couple of drinks, and got a great deal toastier than I expected. Later, as a lot of the symptoms didn't go away, I started to realize that I'm getting sicker - it wasn't just drunk, it was also feverish. Whatever - I had a good time.
I closed up at around 1:40, finished cleaning up around 2:10, and headed out to the car with Synthia.
Which would have been much more effective if the damn thing had started. I apparently have a starter problem.
Synthia took a ride home with a guy that showed up while we were waiting for AAA.
When the AAA guy showed up, he took a quick look, and then organized the remaining people - myself, Stan, and Israel - to get the thing push started.
I headed home. I was initially going to leave the car in my mechanic's lot down the street, but it started easily after I parked it there, so I just took it home.
Then the sleep thing.
